National Institute for Biomedical Research, Kinshasa, DRC.
Prof. Dieudonne Mumba Ngoyi  is a Medical Doctor, Specialist in Medical Microbiology and obtained his PhD in Parasitology from University of Antwerp, Belgium. Currently, he is the  Head of Department of Parasitology at the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB) since 2000 and Professor at School of Medicine at the University of Kinshasa since 2010. He has a longstanding history of work and research experience in Tropical Medicine. During the first years of his career, he served as a Medical Officer in remote and rural areas of the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). He then embarked into research and academia and developed seminal lines of research work of global health impact, notably on the “African Human Trypanosomiasis (HAT)”, a disease that affects millions of people under the tropics. He has led or co-led a dozen scientific research projects funded by international institutions such as the European Union (EU), National Institute for Health (NIH / USA), Wellcome Trust (Great Britain), Vlamse Interuniversitaries Rad (Vlir / Belgium), European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). His work has brought significant contributions to the field of HAT with outcomes that range from the development of new diagnostic tools in HAT (mAECT and upcoming novel testing kits such as HATSero-K-SeT), algorithms for post-therapeutic follow-up of up to one-year, to changes in policy and strategies for the eradication of HAT (WHO Report of the meeting on the elimination of African Human Trypanosomiasis, Geneva, Dec 3-5, 2012). He has set up a model of sampling, conservation and transportation of biological samples from the field to the most sophisticated laboratories for appropriate analyzes.
